Inspired by the 5 star rating system ubiquitous to modern websites, James approached us with a concept to create a physical representation of this motif, allowing the observer to "rate" the artwork as it is displayed.
We developed a custom, touch sensitive lighting system, along with designing and fabricating the stars, leveraging our network of trusted external fabricators. We also created a backend system to record the number of presses and represent these on a small screen next to the piece, which also syncs to a website to show the current "rating" of the piece globally.
The piece has been shown multiple times globally, and was featured at the Royal Academy's 250th Summer exhibition in 2018 where it gained over 50000 interactions.
